88 days in my veins

And now, for a change of pace

Speaking of albums of the year, this wasn’t to be included, it’s a compilation see. Regardless, perfect for a downbeat Sunday evening with a fine bottle of rouge, a good book and a clug (known in 88days as a clumsy hug).

Wolfgang Voigt’s recordings under the name GAS have gone down in folklore as one of the key ambient/techno/drone touchstones of the century. Voigt is more commonly known as the head of the Kompakt record empire, home to The Field ‘From Here We Go Sublime’, Regardless. Of the four disc set packaged beautifully in with postcard sized art prints and an embossed shell, disc 4 ‘Pop‘ is my preference. Tracks are numbered simply from Pop i, to Pop vii’ and the final track with its hypnotising house beat throughout with layered atmospheric sonic textures i hear suggestions of early Aphex and the inner hum of a broken heart. Kicking in at just over 15 minutes I’d recommend a nice hot cup of tea with a damn fine stereo / pair of headphones . The rest of the compilation dabbles in minimal ambient soundscapes but fits perfectly onto a stereo in times of late night working

GAS: Pop VII
