The rolling hills of Northern Italy await this fatigued blogger - but before then a number of blog_boy_jewel_stones from the last week. What to makemake of the new Friendly Fires record? With the Mercury shortlist soon to be announced I’d love to see either Florence or FF win - especially given the pop nature of the previous winners. There is an obvious quality in the concept and nature of the song and its evolution but at times the intricacies of sound are hell on confusing…whatever….bring on the new record
We heart BorF, talk is that he’s no longer going to be producing anymore covers and is solely concentrating on finishing his record for Bella Union (nice home, nice fit, nice signing BU). Anyway, this is yet another wonderful representation of someone else’s work in a finely tuned style now owned by Alessio.
Believe the hype. The kid is the nuts.

Whilst everyone is getting busy on the Big Pink, London’s teenager The xx have been supporting them on tour around the UK. The xx are effortlessly gothic 80’s with a a hip melodic pop sensibility. How can a song so stupidly simple sound SO GOOD? Sure this has been hanging around the blogs around but when it’s being played 10times a week, constantly. Exactly. Built around a very very simple guitar intro and lightly ethereal vocals that simmer along the top of a beautiful Cure inspired riff, then backed with a bubbling bass line - those vocal duets are to die for. Enjoy.
Isn’t it great to have Mew back? Such an underrated band - those vocals and those melodies surrounding those wonderfully guitar structures. Lovable. Rumors of disbanding or being dropped by Sony have proven untrue and a new album is expected soon. On first listen the album comes highly recommended. If you haven’t seen this band live - DO IT.
We’re huge Juan fans here, and honestly I’d never heard of Lazaro until his name popped up in Grindin - anyway - this is an absolutely kicking remix.
