88 days in my veins

Mirrors Mirrors Mirrors

Wake up, look out of skylight drowsily, clock blue sky, roll over again for more napping, slowly push open eyes, clock grey sky. Stay in bed. Wait the days until leaving the country.

A year ago we heard that James New - mastermind of the Mirrors plan - had been listening to a whole lot of Talking Heads. We spat with disdain - where’s he been? - and thought we’d never want to hear anything resulting from hours spent in his Bexhill bedroom again. And yet now he has moved on, sticking with the affected vocals of Byrne - you could guess that New’s previous band were the bedwetting, disgracefully monikered Mumm-Ra, but only just - and moving his record collection a little closer to Kraftwerk. We can feel Kraftwerk’s influence on the collective heads of Mirrors lying as heavy as carrying a Fender Rhodes across a festival site…but there is always a but. Pop sensibilities tied with Kraftwerk-ian instrumentals? Affected or not, this could go somewhere. Were we still in England, we’d see them at Latitude this weekend and then again at the Garage in London on 14th August. Where are we escaping to? All this Krautrock, it must be Berlin…

Welcome to 88 days in my veins. We usually write from London. Although sometimes we're caught between Brighton, Paris, Barcelona, Berlin and Great Malvern.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center. Kurt Vonnegut
